The more we care, the more beautiful life becomes.
The Twig Association of Van Wert County Hospital
Since 1953, the Twig Association has remained a vital resource to Van Wert County Hospital. These dedicated women generously donate their time and talents to raise funds for the hospital. Since their formation, the Twig Association has donated over one million dollars to the hospital including $50,000 towards the Emergency Services Expansion.
There are four Twig groups, each responsible for different service projects throughout the community. Proceeds from the various fundraiser assist in providing the Van Wert community with state-of-the art equipment, which is priceless to the hospital.
In the early 1950s, the Purmort family experienced the death of a child. This insurmountable loss inspired Mrs. L.G. Purmort to organize a group of women to promote the need for a new hospital. Under the direction of Mrs. Purmort, these women spoke to civic organizations and brought the community together. It took 11 years and four elections before voters supported the issue.
Over the years, many events and fundraisers have occurred to continue supporting the hospital. From “Fun-tennials” held at Meadow Lane Farm, the home of the Purmort’s, to bathing beauty contests and “Krazy Daze Follies”.
The objectives and purposes of the Twig Association is to contribute financially to the local hospital facilities, to provide personal service gratis for the benefit of the local hospital facilities, and to promote better community health standards.
